Parent/Coach Info. Parents and Coaches Information We believe a successful recreation program should encourage leisurely play and healthy competition which fosters good sportsmanship. The Grantham Athletic Department’s role should be to provide opportunities for, and leadership in, wholesome, constructive activities that will enrich the lives of the youth of Grantham.
Parents Thank you for allowing your child to participate in the Grantham Recreation Department’s Sports program! It is important to realize this program is designed to help your child learn the basic skills and development of the sport they are participating in. We hope to encourage their confidence and sportsmanship, and emphasize the importance of teamwork and fitness and avoid preoccupation with winning and perfectionism. This is done through participation in practices and during games. Every child on the team will participate for a significant period of time in each game or practice. Coaches, players, and spectators are representatives of the Town of Grantham and the Recreation Department, and are expected to act accordingly. Where equal and separate programs do not exist, girls and boys will be granted an equal opportunity to participate. Please remember that the coach of your child’s team is a volunteer and is giving their time to teach your child the skills and teamwork to become a sports player. Be considerate when picking your child up from practices or games. Notify coaches if your child is not able to make it to practices or games. Sports Registration All participants must pre-register before each program and registration deadlines will be announced at G.V.S., on Recreation Department website and by notices sent home with G.V.S. students. Payment must be made at time of registration in the form of cash or check made out to Grantham Recreation Department. Participants will not be allowed to play unless registration fee is paid. We do not accept credit cards.

Expectations of Spectators The Grantham Athletic Department promotes an atmosphere of zero tolerance for fan misbehavior at all sporting events. Expressing any negative behavior or comments, threats or obscene gestures to players, coaches or officials is also unacceptable. Any spectator who does not behave appropriately will be asked to leave. If the decision is made for the spectator to leave, play will not resume until he/she has left the facility. If he/she refuses to leave, his/her team will forfeit, and the game will be over. Please help us foster good sportsmanship, and encourage positive experiences for our youth.
