Boat Registration Information

State boat registrations/renewals are processed at the Grantham Town Clerk's office. Watercraft with mechanical propulsion of any kind (electric or combustion) and any vessel over 14 feet in length must be registered. As with motor vehicles, please bring your government-issued photo ID (typically a driver's license) with you to the counter.

New registrations for boats not previously registered in New Hampshire will require the following information on the watercraft itself:

  • make and model
  • HIN (hull identification number)
  • length
  • number of engines
  • fuel type
  • inboard or outboard
  • horsepower

This information is typically available on the Bill of Sale/Purchase and Sale Agreement.

New registrations for boats previously registered in New Hampshire, and renewals, require only the bow number, which should be on the boat itself and on the previous registration. Personal watercraft are not titled in our state. A New Hampshire address is not needed to register a boat.

Please note that the renewal notice mailed to you by the state allows you to register your boat by mail. Registering it in this way will save you $5.00, as the town charges this additional fee for processing.
